Series circuit

Series connection, in which one output is connected to the input of the next element.

  • In the case of series circuits with resistors in the same way as the electrical engineering, the individual resistances are added together in fluid technology. The flow rate through the system is then inversely proportional to the overall resistance (Figure R 25). Therefore, for example, the required pressure increases with the length of the line and the number of valves passed through.
  • In the case of series sub-circuits, several consumers (cylinders, motors) are supplied by a single drive (pump) (single circuit system). It should be noted that a movement of downstream elements is only possible when the first or the upstream element moves. In the case of synchronizing cylinders or equal displacement, this results in the same velocities and speeds, but the pressure or usable force decreases from element to element due to the strain (Figure R 26).
