Signal output element

Measuring instrument which outputs the measured value for the variable measured (measured variable). It either serves as a visible output or an indirect output.

Many signal output elements still feature devices that provide additional information in relation to adjustable limit values. They are referred to in such cases as signal devices, limit value indicators or sensors, etc.

Indirect signal output elements either output the measured value in a form which can only be identified with auxiliary equipment or special knowledge or they relay the measured value directly to downstream information carriers (e.g. a computer) no longer classified as a measuring device.

When selecting signal output elements, it is vital to ensure the accuracy required for measurement purposes is maintained. Often when a wrong chose is made, the output will be the weakest link in the measuring chain.
