Identification of a system

Process of searching for a mathematical model for an actual system which provides a satisfactory description of its stationary and dynamic characteristics. This makes it necessary to define the structure of the system (linear?, which order?, etc.) and determine the gains within the individual blocks. The result is the respective model of open loop system (Figure I 1).

In this process, the identification of a system is an analytical step on which the configuration, structuring and parameterisation of a controller are based. It acts like a kind of automated analysis of system parameters. It can take place within a time or frequency range.
