Initial position

Intended signal setting of storage elements in a control device as a prerequisite for the implementation of the program.

In the signal range an intended signal state as the prerequisite for the realisation of a program is often achieved by switching on the auxiliary energy (DIN 19 237).

On hydraulic control elements the initial position is largely forced by mechanical effects, e.g. by springs, for instance the initial position of a directional valve or a pressure valve. The term rest position of the device is also used.
